3 Dimensions of Business
Many people don’t really understand what’s the different between selling, marketing, and business.
For most people, doing marketing means selling things, and that’s their “business” at the same time. If you’re one of those who thinking that way, you’re thinking the wrong way. In fact, they’re totally different one another.
Selling is selling. It’s a whole different skill than marketing, not to mention building business.
And most people subconciously get confused when they first started their learning journey in this whole making money thing, and that’s understandable because every infoproduct out there are all made by successfull practitioners and not theorist. So they can’t put it in structured words.
So below I’ll try to distinguish the difference between these 3 dimensions of business: Selling, Marketing, and Entrepreneuring.
Selling
Selling is the skill of PERSUADING people to buy something.
Selling is the at-the-moment skill.
The most important skill to possess here is the skill of persuasion. How to talk to people, how to write compelling and converting sales letter, how to see through customer’s eyes, how to feel customer’s pain, and these all best done through the skill of empathy. Without having one, you’ll experiencing selling as the hardest work and the biggest constraint of the whole process.
People who do the selling is called a salesman, or in online world known as copywriter (since all the talking done through writing).
They are the soldiers. Frontline people.
Marketing
Marketing is the process of APPROACHING people so that they’re exposed to whatever it is you’re selling.
Marketing is the before-the-moment process.
The most important skills here are how to think strategicly and approach as many people as possible to get their attention, as fast as possible, as efficient, effective, and effortless and as possible.
People who do the marketing called a marketer.
They’re the generals. The people behind the scene.
Business Building
Business building also known as entrepreneuring which is the process to design a system that’ll REPEAT and AUTOMATE the whole process to create a recurring value and therefore, income.
Business building is after-the-moment process.
The skill they needed here are creatively innovate and create a competitive advantage, market and competitor research, make a clear vision, lead and leverage other people’s resources, and drive the whole system. So they need to be able to take various roles including leadership, directing, researching, and innovating. And these are skills of the top level people at a company. The CEOs, directors.
Entrepreneurs are different than managers though. Manager’s job is to manage things or people. Real entrepreneurs don’t manage. They lead! They lead their people, their market, they even lead trends!!
People who building business creatively and passionately is called an entrepreneur.
They are the war architect.
I hope this can help you put your feet in right shoes to keep you focused and make the learning curve easier.
Online business and marketing is a huge jungle when you first step into it. If you don’t know what you’re doing or learning, you’ll waste a lot of energy, time, and money.
Yes information itself is the double-edged sword. The right information will save you from a lot of hardwork and failures. But the “wrong” information will keep you distracted and keep you away from whatever you’re trying to accomplish.
So to achieve an extraordinary result, lack of knowledge and information is bad. But overloaded by “wrong” information is a sin!
